The crash happened around 7:20 p.m. at 2nd and Oak streets, the Brentwood Police Department said in a news release.
An investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling southbound on 2nd Street at more than 60 mph when it collided with another vehicle lawfully passing through the intersection, police said. A third vehicle was also struck as a result of the impact.
The posted speed limit on 2nd Street is 25 mph.
The driver of the first vehicle and three occupants of the second vehicle were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police said the driver of the first vehicle — identified as a 23-year-old Oakland man — was arrested and booked into Contra Costa County jail on a charge of driving under the influence.
The intersection was closed for roughly an hour while police investigated the crash.
