The Irish whiskey will flow again, starting Friday.
After making the “heartbreaking decision” to shut down her Slainte Pub & Grub at the end of October, chef-owner Jackie Gallanagh announced Wednesday that she’s able to reopen the Oakland business.
“A few of our oldest friends (and former employees) have joined together to bring the pub back to life after we closed our doors,” she wrote on her website and social media. “We will reopen on Friday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. and the live Irish music we’re famous for starts at 6 p.m. to help us celebrate.”

The announcement, first reported by Eater SF, didn’t address how her concerns about rising costs and crime (particularly car break-ins) would be addressed. She enthusiastically detailed what customers would find upon their return to the pub near Jack London Square.
“We’ll have a very limited menu and limited hours to start but keep an eye out for expanding menus, specials, and increasing hours of operation over the next few weeks and months,” she said. “In the meantime, we’ll see you Friday and Saturday night from 5pm-12am (Kitchen closed at 10PM) and Sunday from 5-10pm (Kitchen closed at 9PM) starting THIS WEEKEND!! We can’t wait to see you all. We love you.”
The Irish-born Gallanagh is both executive chef and owner. She opened just after St. Patrick’s Day in 2017, offering an authentic food and bar menu and live music in this historic building on Broadway.
