Los Gatos football player AJ Minyard is the Bay Area News Group’s boys athlete of the week for Dec. 4-9 after he received 43.70% of the vote by the deadline Wednesday.

Serra soccer player Nate Coughlin finished second.

Minyard, a senior, the Wildcats on a wild comeback that fell just short in the CIF Division 2-A state title game as Central Valley Christian-Visalia held on for a 45-42 victory at Pasadena City College. In the fourth quarter, the quarterback threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown.
