Montessori school moving from Campbell to Cambrian Park

After spending 25 years in an old post office building in Campbell, a local Montessori school is moving to a campus in the Cambrian Park area of San Jose.

Casa di Mir Montessori’s new location at 1975 Cambrianna Ave. is a former school site and is currently home to a California Sports Center. The Montessori school is set to begin holding classes there in the 2024-25 school year.

“Our lease for the new space begins in July 2024,” says Megan Shumate, director of marketing and development for the private school, which enrolls preschoolers through eighth-graders. “This move is historic for us because it gives us a more permanent home in the South Bay.”

In anticipation of the lease for the old post office coming to an end, school staff formed a committee to search for a new site. While Casa di Mir Montessori has been located in the South Bay for over 35 years, it’s been a while since all its students have been under one roof.

“Currently, we have a split campus in Campbell,” Shumate says. “Our primary and lower elementary are at the old post office building at 90 E. Latimer Ave., and our upper elementary and middle school programs rent space at the Campbell Community Center.

“Having a split campus has presented challenges over the years, and we are excited that our move puts us all together, under one roof.”

Shumate says the move to Cambrian Park—2.7 miles away from the Latimer campus—“allows us to increase our enrollment over time, adding to our programming at all levels.”

In a note to the school community, Casa di Mir Head of School Tyler Bourcier called attention to the Cambrian Park campus’s “abundant outdoor space, with grass, a playground area and room for gardening.

“Large, open classrooms allow for our Montessori environments to remain a priority,” Bourcier added.

The Montessori Method calls for students to engage in self-directed learning. For more information, visit www.casadimir.org.
