One person arrested in fatal Antioch shooting

ANTIOCH — A suspect was arrested in the Saturday shooting death of a 29-year-old man in Brentwood, authorities said.

The name of the man killed, an Antioch resident, was not publicly released as of Monday morning.

The fatal shooting happened about 4;30 p.m. Saturday near some railroad tracks in the 700 block of West 1st Street.

The 29-year-old man was found suffering at least one gunshot wound. Despite first aid efforts by police officers and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a news release, witnesses provided police with information about the suspected shooter and a vehicle he used to flee the scene.

A short time later, Brentwood police located the suspect vehicle in the 1200 block of Dainty Avenue, the release said.

Brentwood police said they used drones, an emergency rescue vehicle and a SWAT team to search the area, detaining three people.

Antioch police said one of them, a 40-year-old Concord man, was arrested as the suspected killer. His name was not released.

Police have not specified whether the two other people detained had been released, cited or arrested.

Antioch police did not say if the man killed and the suspect knew each other or what the motive was for the killing.

In their release, Antioch police thanked the witnesses to the killing and Brentwood police for their assistance.

No other information was released.
