Palo Alto power outage affects thousands; cause unknown

PALO ALTO — A power outage affected thousands of customers in Palo Alto early Monday morning, although no cause was immediately confirmed, according to Palo Alto Utilities.

The outage, which began at 5:30 a.m. according to the utility, affected about 4,559 customers at its peak. As of 8 a.m., about 3,500 were still without power.

The utility said in a social media post that the cause was unknown but could be related to severe weather conditions. The Peninsula received aggressive early morning rainfall Monday morning, as did much of the Bay Area.

There was no estimated time for power to be restored for all customers as of 8 a.m. According to an outage map, most affected customers were between El Camino Real and Middlefield Road.
