Police said the woman was a pedestrian, but it was not clear if she was in a crosswalk or elsewhere on the street.

Police found her in the roadway, suffering from severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later police located the vehicle and the driver suspected of striking her, in the parking lot of a nearby business, according to Lt. Abe Teng.

After a preliminary investigation, the driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run, Teng said. The district attorney is reviewing the case for possible charges.
