Two vehicles kill man early Sunday in San Carlos

Just before 7 a.m. Sunday, two vehicles hit and killed a 69-year-old man crossing the road in San Carlos.

The incident occurred on the 1400 block of El Camino Real, near Belmont Avenue.

The first driver, a 27-year-old from Redwood City, was heading north on El Camino Real when he struck the man. Drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors to the incident, San Mateo County authorities said, and reported the driver cooperated with law enforcement at the scene.

Soon after, however, a second vehicle struck the victim and fled the scene. A 66-year-old man was later arrested on a suspicion of felony hit-and-run and was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.

The pedestrian died despite resuscitation efforts by paramedics.

Anyone with information about the death can contact Sgt. G. Ramirez at (650) 802 4277.
