SAN LEANDRO — The empty former harbor master’s office at the San Leandro Marina was destroyed by a fire Wednesday morning, officials said.
The fire erupted about 8:27 a.m. at the building, which is part of the marina in the 40 block of Mulford Point Drive.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.
Alameda County firefighters confined the blaze to the office and had it under control within 45 minutes, officials said. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Cheryl Hurd, a spokesperson for the county fire department.
Hurd said representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard and state Department of Fish and Game responded to the scene because of concerns that runoff from the fire might impact wildlife. She said the two agencies were in agreement about firefighters putting booms into the water to prevent runoff from spreading into San Francisco Bay.
The marina, located between Fairway Drive and Marina Boulevard, has been closed for more than a year.
