Suspect arrested in Saratoga hate crime

Dec. 17

Reckless evading: At 11:45 p.m., deputies responded to an automated license plate reader notification for a vehicle with a stolen license plate at Saratoga Avenue and Highway 85. Deputies located the vehicle a short time later at Big Basin Way and Fourth Street. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not yield and recklessly evaded, and the pursuit was ultimately terminated in the interest of public safety. The suspect is unknown and at large.

Grand theft, theft by credit card: Between 3:40 a.m. and 8:12 a.m., someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 13000 block of Ravenwood Drive and stole a wallet for a loss of about $1,000. The suspect then used credit cards from the wallet to make fraudulent purchases totaling approximately $357.

Dec. 19

Vehicle tampering, vandalism: Between 11 a.m. on Dec. 16 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 19, someone tampered with a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 20000 block of Miljevich Drive and attempted to steal a catalytic converter but was unsuccessful. The total amount of damage was estimated at over $2,000.

Vehicle tampering, grand theft: Between 5 p.m. on Dec. 18 and 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 19, someone tampered with a vehicle parked in the 12000 block of Cheverly Court and stole a catalytic converter for a total loss estimated at $1,000.

Vehicle tampering, grand theft: Between 10 p.m. on Dec. 18 and 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 19, someone tampered with a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 19000 block of Oakhaven Drive and stole a catalytic converter for a total loss estimated at $2,500.

Dec. 21

Vandalism: At 10:06 p.m., three suspects threw eggs at a residence in the 20000 block of Russell Lane and tipped over a porta-potty, causing damage. The total amount of damage was estimated at over $400.

Dec. 22

Reckless evading, recovered stolen vehicle: At 1:40 a.m., deputies observed a motorist driving a stolen vehicle at Prospect Road and Lawrence Expressway and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not yield and recklessly evaded, and the pursuit was ultimately terminated. The vehicle, which was stolen from San Jose, was recovered abandoned a short time later. The suspect is unknown and at large.

Dec. 23

Residential burglary: Between 10 a.m. and 1:20 p.m., someone entered the garage of a residence in the 14000 block of Stoneridge Drive by forcing a side door open and stole electronics, gifts, a musical instrument and wine for a total loss of approximately $6,154.

Dec. 24

Stolen vehicle: Between noon on Dec. 19 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 24, someone stole a vehicle from the driveway of a residence in the 14000 block of Farwell Avenue. The value of the vehicle was estimated at approximately $40,000.

Hate crime, vandalism: At 1:24 p.m., deputies responded to a vandalism call at the Argonaut Shopping Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and discovered a hate crime. An investigation revealed the suspect drew a swastika on a shopping center pillar in front of Safeway in violation of their parole terms. The damage was estimated at $500. The suspect was arrested.
