SAN JOSE — Logan Couture is expected to play at some point during the San Jose Sharks’ upcoming road trip, coach David Quinn said Thursday.
Couture has missed the entire season with a lower-body injury but has made significant progress with his health in recent weeks, skating more regularly without any setbacks.
Quinn said the Sharks want Couture to get through more practices without any issues.
“When he does play, we don’t want there to be any potential setbacks,” Quinn said before the Sharks played the Winnipeg Jets. “We want this to be 100%.”
The Sharks finish their three-game homestand on Saturday against Toronto, then begin a five-game road trip on Tuesday against the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. San Jose’s trip lasts until Jan. 16, with other games against the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Quinn said he’s spoken to Couture about whether he’ll play the wing or move back to center once he does return.
“So we’ll just see how it keeps going,” Quinn said.
Couture’s last NHL game came on April 13 against the Edmonton Oilers, as he finished last season with 27 goals and 40 assists. The 2022-2023 season marked the first time since 2014-15 that he played every regular season game.
