Woman stabbed in Berkeley; suspect still being sought

BERKELEY — A man who stabbed a woman in the stomach Thursday morning as they walked along University Avenue was still being sought by police Friday, authorities said.

The woman, who police said is in her 40s, remained in stable condition Friday.

The stabbing happened about 8:15 a.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of University Avenue.

Police said the two were walking together when the man suddenly stabbed the woman in the stomach. He fled before police could respond to the scene.

Police believe the man and woman know each other, but investigators have not specified a possible motive for the attack.
