Man dies weeks after he was hit by a car in San Jose

SAN JOSE — A man who was hit by a car in San Jose in late December has died from his injuries, according to authorities.

The collision took place around 6:56 p.m. Dec. 29, when a woman driving westbound on Umbarger Road in a 2016 gray Acura hit a man crossing the street near the intersection with Senter Road. Police said the man was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Deadly hit-and-run investigated as San Jose’s first homicide of 2024

The man was transported to a hospital and was later stabilized. He died from injuries sustained in the collision on Jan. 13, police said. His identity was not immediately released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.

San Jose police logged the death as the second traffic-related death of 2024. A deadly crash that killed a man in South San Jose on Monday morning was counted as the first of the year.
