Oakland man fell to the ground with gunshot wounds, only to have his killer stand over him and shoot again, police say

OAKLAND — A 33-year-old man has been identified by police as the victim of a Dec. 23 homicide.

James Craft, of Oakland, was shot and killed around 4 p.m. Dec. 23, in a shooting on the 7100 block of International Boulevard in East Oakland. A 62-year-old man, described by police as an innocent bystander, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his ankle but survived, police said.

Craft and two friends were on the block when an unidentified gunman opened fire at Craft, who fell to the ground after being shot. Police say his killer then went up to him, stood over his body and continued to shoot him.

The suspect then fled from the area in a vehicle, police said.

No arrests have been announced and police haven’t said if they’ve uncovered the motive, besides confirming Craft was the intended target of the shooting.
