STANFORD – Tara VanDerveer became college basketball’s all-time winningest coach as Stanford defeated Oregon State 65-56 on Sunday afternoon at Maples Pavilion.
In her 46th season, VanDerveer improved her record to 1,203-267, passing former Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.
After the game Krzyzewski released a statement congratulating the Stanford head coach.
The eighth-ranked Cardinal did it without star center Cameron Brink, who suffered a leg injury on Friday and was ruled out an hour before Sunday’s game.
Stanford instead relied on junior forward Kiki Iriafen, who had a career-high 36 points as the Cardinal remained undefeated at home in front of a near-sellout at Maples, including a section filled with VanDerveer’s former players.
