How the Warriors will honor Dejan Milojevic this season

SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors will find a few ways to honor their assistant coach Dejan Milojevic, who died of a heart attack last week in Salt Lake City.

For the rest of the season, the Warriors will have a patch on their jerseys with a heart and Milojevic’s initials “DM” inside the heart. Additionally, a ‘DM’ logo emblazoned on the sideline will remain on the floor at Chase Center for every remaining home game this year, the team announced.

The team is also finalizing plans for a pre-game tribute to Milojevic, who they called “Deki,” before tip-off against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. It will be the team’s first game since his death last Wednesday.

The Warriors postponed their games against the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks to mourn Milojevic’s death and returned to their first team practice on Monday. Warriors players were seen wearing shirts honoring Milojevic that say “Brate,” the Serbian slang word for “brother” that Milojevic would use to address all his teammates and friends.

The team is sending those shirts out to most of the league to wear in Milojevic’s honor. The Warriors also watched the full 12-minute tribute out of Belgrade, Serbia that KK Partizan, where Milojevic played, and Mega Basket, where Milojevic coached.
