Caltrain hits, kills person on tracks in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO — A Caltrain hit and killed a person  in Palo Alto on Friday morning, the commuter rail line said.

According to Caltrain spokesperson Dan Lieberman, a person was on the tracks near the California Avenue station for unknown reasons and was hit by a northbound train carrying 78 passengers. The person was killed at around 7:59 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

Caltrain fatally strikes person in Menlo Park

The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner will release the person’s identity once it is confirmed and next-of-kin is notified.

Northbound service to San Francisco resumed by 9:15 a.m., though residual delays were still impacting train service as of 10 a.m.

Earlier this week, a Caltrain hit an unoccupied car in south Palo Alto at the Charleston Road crossing. No injuries were reported in that collision.
