OAKLAND — A 42-year-old man who told police he was shot in East Oakland Thursday night after refusing to give his wallet to a robber was in stable condition Friday, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 10:13 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of 14th Avenue.
The victim told police he was walking from his home to a food truck when a red SUV stopped and a masked man with a gun got out, confronted him and demanded his wallet.

The victim told police when he refused to turn over his wallet he was shot in the ankle.
The suspect fled in the SUV without the wallet before police got to the scene. The wounded man was taken to a hospital.
A detailed description of the suspect was not released.
