The shooting was reported around 6:15 a.m. in a guestroom at the Grand Sierra Resort. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is believed to have known the shooter, and “there is no danger to the public,” the police said. They did not disclose whether a suspect is in custody.

The Grand Sierra — formerly the MGM Grand, Bally’s and the Reno Hilton — is a 26-story tower just north of the city’s airport. A $1 billion makeover announced last year includes an arena for the University of Nevada basketball teams.

In August 2022, a man was fatally shot at the Grand Sierra. The suspect, a 22-year-old woman, remains in the Washoe County jail awaiting trial.
