Three boys were caught by fast-moving water in a Moreno Valley storm channel on Tuesday, Feb. 6, prompting a rescue operation that resulted in the safe recovery of all three boys, authorities said. This was the latest in a series of rescues during this week’s stormy weather in Southern California.
The water emergency was reported at 4:25 p.m. in the area of Cottonwood Avenue and Dilbeck Drive, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Two witnesses, Evalena and Daniel Hamel, called 911 saying three youths were unable to get out of the canal.
“We were going to take pictures of the high water in the canal. We saw three kids in the canal and yelled at them to not go in,” Daniel Hamel told news agency Onscene.TV.
“One of them went on a (bodyboard) and fell off and started going down the river,” Evalena Hamel told Onscene.TV.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies and fire personnel had removed the boys from the canal by 4:50 p.m., officials told Onscene.TV.
No deputies or fire personnel were injured, authorities told Onscene.TV.
“Storm channels, canals, and waterways are extremely dangerous when flooded. The water moves deceptively quickly. Please stay out of these areas,” Cal Fire/Riverside said on social media.
