Oakland man was killed after gunman drove to collision scene, police say

Officers were called to East 18th Street and Hillcrest Avenue around 6:50 p.m. for reports of gunshots followed by a traffic collision, according to the Antioch Police Department.

Police said an investigation revealed that the incident started with an assault in a nearby parking lot. Two males attacked another male, who then retrieved a handgun from his car and fired at the assailants as they drove out of the parking lot.

In a bid to escape the gunfire, the assailants made a U-turn against a red light at the intersection and collided with another car traveling east on East 18th Street, according to police.

The assailants, along with the shooter, then fled. They had not been found as of Wednesday.

The driver of the car that was struck was taken to a hospital with a complaint of pain.
