Address emissions to
cut climate change cost
Re: “Tapping a flood of information” (Page A1, Jan. 31).
Kudos to the USGS for developing a modeling system demonstrating the significant impact climate change will have on sea-level rise and increasing storm intensity in the Bay Area.
USGS’s Barnard stated, “Just showing hazard maps doesn’t really mean a lot to people, but when there are dollars and lives that are tied in, that opens up the discussion with governments.”
Agreed.
The financial impacts of climate change have been escalating. The Mercury News reported July 13 that it will cost $110 billion by 2050 to protect the San Francisco Bay from rising sea levels.
Several large U.S. property insurers have already stopped writing policies in California due to increasing weather extremes caused by climate change.
If we don’t adequately address the root cause of climate change by reducing carbon pollution, costs will continue to rise.
Urge your lawmakers to be fiscally responsible and protect their constituents by supporting policies that lower emissions.

Nguyen will tackle
quality-of-life issues
Quality of life issues — crime, homelessness, trash, graffiti, mental health — impact all of us, and we look to our government for solutions. Who can help? We are not looking for someone who only boasts of endorsements from special interest groups. No, we need someone with a demonstrated track record as an elected official in government and who has the passion and drive to tackle our seemingly insurmountable quality-of-life issues.
Madison Nguyen is the overwhelming best choice for District 2 supervisor for Santa Clara County. She will combine her experience as San Jose vice mayor, San Jose District 7 City Council representative along with her passion and drive to get the county and the city working together to finally tackle quality-of-life issues in a meaningful way.
I strongly support Madison Nguyen in the upcoming primary and urge my neighbors to join me.

I just smiled knowing that Jeanine Pirro, hands down one of Fox News’ most disingenuous, mendacious and shameless spreaders of baseless conspiracy theories, is apoplectic about the specter of Taylor Swift endorsing Joe Biden in his run for reelection.
Add to Pirro’s ignorance Trump lackey Sean Hannity’s warning to Swift that Biden is “a kind of stumbling, bumbling mess” and you have to wonder if Jeanine and Sean have even heard the inane, bizarre and incendiary ramblings of Mr. Trump. Stumbling and bumbling indeed.
