No. 5 San Ramon Valley 59, Monte Vista 35
The Wolves made sure to leave no doubt.
Five days after San Ramon Valley pulled off a close road win over rival Monte Vista, the Wolves had one of their best defensive performances of the year as they blew out the Mustangs by 24 points Wednesday at home to advance to the East Bay Athletic League Tournament semifinals.
Luke Isaak led the way for the Wolves with 16 points while Seamus Deely and Elliot Conley scored 13 points each. Deely also chipped in 12 rebounds.
Daniel Cojacarn and Jacob Shehata each had 11 points for Monte Vista in the loss.
The Mustangs closed the first quarter up 14-9, but SRV made its mark in the next 24 minutes. An 8-0 run to end the second quarter, gave the Wolves a 27-19 lead at the half.
SRV held Monte Vista to just 11 points in the third quarter, fueled by excellent perimeter defense. The Wolves started to gain momentum in the second half as they outscored the Mustangs 32-16.
Monte Vista, who kept up with SRV well into the fourth quarter last Friday, struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the second half as it was held to just 21 total points after the first quarter.
It was the fourth time this season San Ramon Valley held an opponent under 40 points.
The Wolves move onto the EBAL Tournament semifinals where they will face No. 2 seeded Granada. The Matadors defeated SRV two weeks ago 60-58 in a game that went to the final buzzer.
Bishop O’Dowd 62, St. Joseph Notre Dame 52
After dropping back-to-back games to Berkeley and Modesto Christian last week, the Dragons rebounded by beating the Pilots convincingly on the road.
Both teams played just about even throughout, but O’Dowd’s 27-point second quarter proved to be the difference in the game.
Leo Chapman and Joshua Green each had 17 points in the win. Gabriel Enyinwa led St. Joseph’s with 15 points.

Menlo-Atherton 58, Carlmont 43
Justin Moore scored 21 points to lead Menlo-Atherton past Carlmont at home.
Trevor Cadigan scored 14 points and John Anderson added 11 in the win.
With the win, Menlo-Atherton is now tied for second place in the Peninsula- Bay League with Carlmont.
Girls Basketball
Monte Vista 54, Dublin 53
It was an instant classic in the East Bay Athletic League quarterfinals as Monte Vista narrowly escaped Dublin at home.
The Mustangs shut down the Gaels in the third quarter, allowing just a point heading into the final eight minutes. But after beginning the quarter trailing by 12, Dublin’s offense exploded as the Gaels scored 27 points in the fourth quarter.
With the Gaels up two with 13 seconds left and the ball, Monte Vista had to foul which resulted in Dublin at the free throw line. After missing both free throws, Monte Vista got the ball and called a timeout with four seconds left. The Mustangs drew up a play for sophomore Alyssa Rudd who drove to the basket and converted a layup plus a foul to put Monte Vista up 54-53.
Dublin had time for one last shot at the buzzer, but it fell short as Monte Vista avoided the Gaels’ upset bid.
Rudd ended the night with 28 points, 12 of which came in the fourth quarter.
Sophia Ignacio led Dublin with 15 points and Kenya Craven added 12 points in the loss.
Monte Vista will play San Ramon Valley on the road in the EBAL Tournament semifinals.
James Logan 58, Mission San Jose 52
Vanessa Parilla scored a game-high 24 points and the Colts overcame an 18-point halftime deficit to win their 10th consecutive game.
Patricia Wu scored 17 points for the Warriors in the loss.
Mission San Jose (7-17, 4-9 Mission Valley) exploded in the second quarter, outscoring James Logan 25-7 to take a big lead going into the intermission.
But the Colts (20-4, 11-2) responded in a big way in the third, holding the Warriors to just five points while scoring 18 of their own. Heading into the final quarter, Mission San Jose held a 42-37 lead.
Parilla came in clutch, scoring nine of her 24 points in the final quarter to seal a come from behind victory for James Logan.
The Colts will finish their regular season on Friday when they face Washington at home.
No. 8 Piedmont 74, San Leandro 24
Senior guard Natalia Martinez continued her stellar play, scoring 40 points while going 10 for 10 from behind the arc in a dominant win over San Leandro.
Martinez, who scored 39 points in a win over Oakland High on Monday, had 26 first-half points against San Leandro. At halftime, the Highlanders led 49-19.
Piedmont held the Pirates to just 10 points total in the second half en route to its third straight win. Junior center Ravyn Martin led San Leandro with seven points.
Piedmont improved to 19-5, 6-1. San Leandro is now 5-19, 1-6.
No. 10 Los Gatos 64, Fremont 41
The Wildcats rolled to their 12th straight win behind Ashley Childers and Nicole Steiner who each scored 17 points.
Anusha Chadalavada led Fremont (10-12, 4-6) with 15 points and Hayley Johnson had 13.
Los Gatos (20-2, 10-0 Santa Clara Valley- El Camino) continued its dominance this season as the Wildcats recorded their 16th win by at least 10 or more points. A win Friday against Monta Vista can seal the league title for Los Gatos.
Moreau Catholic 77, Irvington 31
The Mariners picked up a key win to remain in first place in the Mission Valley Athletic League with a 46-point blowout win over Irvington.
Senior Madeline Bader led all scorers with 17 points, Elisa Ortega had 14 points and Mahlaysia Atkins and Ava Bowens each had 12 points.
Maryah Abdussamy was the leading scorer for Irvington with eight points.
Moreau can win the MVAL title with a win against Newark Memorial on Thursday.

Priory 66, Menlo School 46
The Panthers moved to within one game of first in the West Bay- Foothill standings with a 20-point win over Menlo School.
Vienn Sheng led the way for Priory with 25 points while making seven 3-pointers and recording four steals. Sophomore Jordyn Moss added 15 points and three steals.
Priory (13-9, 7-1) will play Notre Dame (Belmont) on Friday and will finish the season against Pinewood on Tuesday in a game that could have the league title on the line.
Menlo School dropped to 14-8, 5-3.
Santa Clara 40, Wilcox 25
Mia Talalele notched her 16th double-double of the season with 20 points and 17 rebounds as the Bruins beat their cross town rivals for the second time this season.
Santa Clara (16-5, 7-2 Santa Clara Valley- El Camino) went into halftime with a 28-10 lead and didn’t look back. The Bruins’ defense didn’t allow more than 10 points in a quarter. Dexie Medida led Wilcox (6-15, 7-2) with eight points.
Monta Vista 53, Lynbrook 45
After a sluggish start to the first half, the Matadors rallied in the second half to beat Lynbrook at home.
Lynbrook took a 22-19 lead going into the intermission. But Monta Vista came out of the third quarter much more aggressive on both ends as it scored 19 third quarter points to go into the fourth with a 38-37 lead.
Vivian Ong scored 12 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, lifting the Matadors to the win. Carolyn Ruan also had 14 points and Clara Fan had 13.
Lynbrook point guard Alice Wu led all scorers with 18.
Monta Vista improved to 18-4, 8-2. Lynbrook is now 15-8, 6-5.
Boys Soccer
No. 2 St. Francis 2, Serra 0
Both teams fought hard in the first half, but the Lancers took over the second half to remain unbeaten in West Catholic Athletic League play.
Midway through the second, St. Francis (16-0-2, 10-0-2) found a transition opportunity after a Serra turnover. The ball found junior midfielder Andrew Huber who shot a laser to the right corner of the goal to put St. Francis up 1-0.
Senior Reece Wyatt scored the second goal of the night for the Lancers when he executed a 2-on-1 opportunity that ended with a left-footed finish near the penalty box.
Serra (8-5-5, 4-3-5) had six shots with four on goal. The Padres were without leading scorer Nate Coughlin.
Menlo School 5, Eastside College Prep 0
Senior Alessandro Velazquez had a hat trick en route to a dominant win for the Knights over East Side Prep.
Declan Sitter had two assists and Yasin Abdulkariem for Menlo.
A win over Priory on Friday would make Menlo the West Bay Athletic League champs.
South San Francisco 1, Woodside 1
After going down 1-0 in the first half, South San Francisco senior Angel Ramirez scored the equalizer in what would end up as a tie for both squads.
Justin Galvez scored Woodside’s lone goal.
The Warriors sit atop the Peninsula- Ocean League with a 12-4-2, 7-1-1 record. Woodside is behind them in second place at 10-6-3, 6-1-2.
