Two people died early Thursday after a pickup truck hit a stalled car on the Bay Bridge near Treasure Island, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened about 4:15 a.m. in the eastbound direction of Interstate 80 just before the island, according to reports confirmed by the CHP. The crash also hospitalized two other people with major injuries, the agency said.
According to the CHP, three people were in a MINI Cooper compact car, when it stalled on the freeway. A pickup truck with only the driver hit it from behind.
The identities of the dead were not released Thursday morning. The San Francisco Medical Examiner was at the scene past 6 a.m.
The CHP shut down all five lanes of the freeway initially, and later opened two of them. Alll lanes of the freeway were opened and the scene cleared by about 6:45 a.m.
