Knife-wielding suspect shot at by Santa Clara police officer

A police officer shot at a knife-wielding suspect while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.

Police found the 20-year-old suspect armed with knives just south of the of the 1000 block of Kiely Boulevard. He had reportedly assaulted a family member before fleeing his home on foot, according to the Santa Clara police.

When officers caught up with him, they ordered him to drop the knives he was holding, but he reportedly refused. When other verbal de-escalation attempts failed, an officer fired a single round at him, which missed.

The suspect was taken into custody after a brief struggle with police, and was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
