Oakland police arrest juvenile in killing of corner store employee

Oakland police arrested a juvenile last week in the early-January killing of a corner store employee.

Detectives with the Oakland Police Department’s homicide and robbery units took the juvenile into custody on Feb. 27 in the killing of Maged Alazzani, the police department announced Tuesday. The juvenile’s name and age were not released.

Alazzani was shot just before 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 6 while working inside the Orlando Market at 2940 Linden St. in West Oakland, authorities said. He was driven by some other people to a hospital, where he died about a half-hour later.

Police have not released a possible motive for Alazzani’s death.

The killing marked the third homicide of the year in Oakland, and it was one of two fatal shootings in the span of less than three hours in the city. At about 5:50 p.m. that same day, a 22-year-old Oakland woman was gunned down near Seminary Avenue and San Leandro Street in East Oakland, authorities said.
