A steady steam of visitors, some wearing cat-themed clothing, came to Pavilion Hall to view and pet over a hundred cats and kittens of all different breeds for the “Puttin’ On The Ritz” Cat Show.
Held at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, breeds included Maine Coon Cats, Persians, Siamese, Devon Rex, Ragdolls, Bengals and many others. The show was presented by the Tails & No Tales Cat Club and Call of the Wild Cat Fanciers.
The Cat Fanciers’ Association judges were on hand to judge multiple categories, with one of the most popular being the costume contest. However, judges were not needed for the costume contest as costumed cats were paraded around by their owners to a large crowd with the winner being chosen by audience applause.
Among those competing for the prize were a Cat in the Hat, a pirate, a Taco Cat, a witch and a vampire. But a white bunny prevailed. Autumn Schrader, 5, triumphantly carried her bright white cat named Super Nova, an 11-month-old Himalayan Persian, nearly the size of Autumn and dressed as a bunny rabbit, through the crowd after receiving the first-place ribbon.
In addition to the different cat contests, there was also the “Meow Mall” where cat-themed clothing and items could be purchased as well as cat trees, toys and other cat necessities. Several rescue groups also attended with kittens and cats available for adoption.
