The driver of a construction vehicle died Sunday in a crash off Highway 101 in Novato, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened at about 7:40 a.m. when the driver was heading south near the Nave Drive overcrossing. The driver went off the road and struck a tree, and the vehicle caught fire, said CHP Officer Jonathan Langley.

A witness told police that the driver was unable to get out, according to a CHP incident report. Firefighters pronounced the driver dead at the scene, Langley said.
The CHP closed three lanes of Highway 101 after the crash. All lanes reopened at 11:10 a.m.
The crash is under investigation, and authorities have not released the name of the driver.
