Vote now: Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from April 29- May 4.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Evan Alexander, Washington track and field: Alexander won the 800-meter race at the North Coast Section Bayshore championships, crossing the finish line in 2:03.00.

Seth Collet, Woodside swimming: The junior won the 100-yard backstroke (48.86) and the 200 freestyle (1:37.65) at the Central Coast Section championships. 

Robbie Fintland, St. Joseph Notre Dame baseball: Fintland had three hits, three RBIs and a double in the Pilots’ 10-9 win over Head-Royce. The Alameda school is in first place in the Bay Area Conference East Division standings.

Joseph Hoskins, Hillsdale baseball: Hoskins was 5 for 5 with four doubles, four RBIs and three runs in a 21-6 win over Carlmont. Hillsdale is 10-10-1 this season. 

Kole Laubach, Valley Christian baseball: Laubach pitched a perfect game in the Warriors’ 3-0 victory over St. Ignatius. With the win, Valley Christian captured a share of the West Catholic Athletic League regular-season title with Serra.

Michael Powell, Menlo-Atherton swimming: Powell, a freshman, came from behind to win the 500 freestyle at the CCS championships with a time of 4:30.09. 

Luka Mijatovic, Foothill swimming: The freshman won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36.25 and 500 freestyle in 4:21.94 at the North Coast Section championships. 

David Roberts, Liberty baseball: The Arizona State commit struck out 11 and allowed just four hits in a 5-2 victory over Heritage. Roberts, a senior, has a 2.82 ERA this season.

Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week: Dylan Kall, Burlingame

Luke Rogers, Menlo baseball: The junior went 4 for 8 and had a double across two wins against Half Moon Bay. Rogers is hitting .481 and has a .512 on-base percentage. 

Tim Selway, More baseball: Selway, a senior, had two hits, four RBIs and a home run in a 12-1 win over Pinewood. More (16-5, 7-1) is in first place in the Private School Athletic League standings. 

Mason Wendler, Northgate swimming: The UC Santa Barbara commit won his first NCS championship event, taking first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.37.
