Burglars steal potato chips from Saratoga High snack shack

April 22

Commercial burglary: Between 2 p.m. on April 20 and 3:21 p.m. on April 22, someone entered a snack shack at the football field of Saratoga High School on Herriman Avenue and stole a bag of potato chips for a loss of $2. The suspect(s) also attempted to pry open a locked drink refrigerator inside the snack shack but were unsuccessful.

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to place a hold on the victim’s mail, open a bank account and obtain checks and a credit card. No financial loss was reported.

Possession of a stolen vehicle, loaded firearms, and high-capacity magazines: At 8:16 a.m., deputies responded to an automated license plate reader notification for a stolen vehicle on Saratoga Avenue at Highway 85. An investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from Santa Cruz and was still outstanding. Deputies located and stopped the vehicle a short time later. The driver initially refused to provide identifying information, but ultimately complied and admitted to prior weapons charges out of Canada, where the suspect also had outstanding warrants and prior arrests for robbery. The suspect, who was wearing body armor at the time of the stop, was in possession of loaded firearms, including a short-barrel rifle without a serial number, and loaded high-capacity magazines. The suspect was arrested.

April 23

Robbery: Between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., a suspect struck the victim in the head from behind at the Saratoga Retirement Community on Odd Fellows Drive after the victim returned home from withdrawing money at the bank. The victim fell and sustained injuries, and the suspect stole money from the victim’s pants pocket for a loss totaling approximately $4,280.

Mail theft, possession of misappropriated property and drug paraphernalia: At 5:04 p.m., deputies responded to a suspicious person call in the 22000 block of Rolling Hills Road. An investigation revealed the suspect stole two packages from the front porch of a residence, and then opened the packages. The suspect was also in possession of a debit card not belonging to them and drug paraphernalia.

April 24

Forgery: On April 24, a Saratoga resident reported that someone obtained a check placed in outgoing mail at the US Post Office on Allendale Avenue, then altered and attempted to cash the check. The bank flagged the check and notified the victim, who declined the transaction, so no financial loss was incurred.

April 25

Grand theft: At 7:41 a.m., two suspects cut a lock and stole an e-bike from a bike rack at Saratoga High School on Herriman Avenue for a total loss of approximately $4,500.
