San Mateo County: Four people held, authorities say they planned to smuggle drugs into Maguire Correctional Facility

Investigators with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office foiled a plan to smuggle methamphetamine into Maguire Correctional Facility last month, the office said Thursday.

One of the suspects, a 23-year-old man from Pinole, was already incarcerated at the facility, but intended to use the re-booking process to smuggle the drugs in, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The other three suspects were a 31-year-old from Menlo Park, a 32-year-old from San Mateo and a 34-year-old from South San Francisco.

All four were arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation for sale of methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit a felony.

On April 23, the sheriff’s office said, they found out about the plan and found the drugs in the incarcerated suspect’s possession. Authorities stated they were able to prevent the drugs from being dispersed in the prison.

The office did not reveal information about how they learned about the alleged sales or the additional suspects.

The incarcerated suspect was rebooked with the charges related to the plot. The remaining suspects were identified after an investigation, arrested and booked into Maguire Correctional Facility.
