Bay Area man arrested on suspicion of killing his 78-year-old mother

Rio Vista Police Chief Jon Mazer confirmed Tuesday that officers from his department took a 57-year-old man into custody after the body of his mother was discovered in a Trilogy home the day prior.

According to Mazer, Rio Vista police officers responded to a request for a welfare check at a home in the 500 block of Birch Ridge Drive on the afternoon of May 13.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect, and after a brief struggle, the suspect was arrested with minor injuries (but) no officers were injured during the arrest,” said Mazer.

Officers then discovered the body of a 78-year-old woman inside the residence, who was determined to be the mother of the suspect, according to Mazer.

RVPD requested the assistance of the Solano County Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime scene investigators who responded to the scene a short time later, Mazer said, and at this time the full circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are currently under investigation.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released at this time, has been booked into the Solano County Jail on several felony charges, including murder.

“This is a terrible but isolated incident with no continuing or further threat to the community,” said Mazer.
