CAMBODIA: Sunnyvale residents Mahesh and Rovina Suri visited Cambodia’s famous Angkor Wat complex recently, calling it “a must in a lifetime, because the ancient temple complex is mesmerizing and speaks to the grandeur of the Khmer civilization. The complex is spread across more than 400 acres and is said to be the largest religious monument in the world — its name translates to ‘temple city.’ The temple walls are decorated with thousands of bas-reliefs representing important deities and figures in the Hindu and Buddhist religions and key events in its narrative tradition.”

TRAVEL TIPS: “We highly recommend visiting at sunrise, because the first rays of the sun over the temple leave one in awe. Be sure to hire a knowledgeable guide, because they can give you the history of the Khmer civilization and also tell you about all the intricate carvings and the many temples housed within the complex. Try to visit the temples over a couple of days because seeing all of them in one day can be overwhelming. After the temple closes, visit Pub Street in the evenings, because it has many great restaurants, shops, foot massage places and is full of life.”
