WALNUT CREEK — BART trains stopped running in both directions on the yellow line Tuesday after what officials called a “major medical emergency” at the Walnut Creek station.

All service between the Pleasant Hill and Lafayette stations was closed, and Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews were at the station to tend to the emergency, according to BART spokesperson Jim Allison.

The incident happened about 10:50 a.m.

According to Allison, personnel were tending to the possibility that a person was in the trackway.

BART on social media said it had set up shuttle train service between the Pittsburg/Bay Point station and Pleasant Hill. Trains were turning back and heading toward San Francisco from the Antioch direction at the Lafayette station.

Those needing train service between Lafayette and Pleasant Hill were advised to use other means of transportation.

No other information was available immediately.
