OAKLAND — An 18-year-old woman who died from gunshot wounds in San Francisco last month was actually shot in Oakland, and police homicide detectives in the East Bay have taken over the investigation, authorities said Wednesday.
The name of the woman killed was not immediately released. Police said she was a San Francisco resident.
The woman was dropped off at a San Francisco hospital about 11:30 p.m. May 22 and died from her wounds a short time later, authorities said.
San Francisco police initially had led the investigation.
In the course of their investigation it was determined the woman was actually shot in the 3700 block of Manila Avenue at an undisclosed time before she was taken to the San Francisco hospital, authorities said. The approximate location of the shooting is very near Kaiser Hospital in Oakland.
Oakland police officially took over the homicide investigation on Tuesday.
A motive for the killing was under investigation. No arrests have been announced.
The death is the 37th homicide to be investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 46 homicides in the city.
