The crash happened on westbound Interstate 580 west of the North Livermore Avenue exit and close to the Isabel Avenue exit about 5:40 a.m. It brought a Sig Alert for severe traffic. Only the far left lane was open following the wreck.

Authorities did not identify the motorcyclist immediately, pending notification of his relatives.

According to the CHP, the motorcycle was splitting lanes — a legal maneuver — but wound up being hit and run over by the big rig.

The CHP did not say how long they anticipated the lanes would be closed or how long they would be investigating before they clear the scene.
