Summer in Saratoga means outdoor concerts, movies

No stifling humidity, no excessive heat—summer in Saratoga is a practically perfect setting for outdoor concerts happening at the Mountain Winery and Montalvo Arts Center. Both bring top-notch entertainment to the city. Check out their schedules at www.montalvoarts.org and www.mountainwinery.com.

Saratoga boasts even more music venues. On Saturday, July 6, 6-9 p.m., Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards will host Nigel and Clive. They put on a great show, and it’s hard not to sing and dance along to songs from the British Invasion. www.savannahchanelle.com

The City of Saratoga is hosting family-friendly Summer Movie Nights. Coming up July 12 is “Trolls Band Together.” Movies start at sunset at El Quito Park, 12855 Paseo Presada, and picnicking is encouraged. Next up on Aug. 9 will be “Kung Fu Panda.”

Remember the days of drive-in movies? West Valley College will re-create that summer experience with a drive-in presentation of Walt Disney’s “Mary Poppins” on Friday, June 28. The movie starts at sunset in parking lot 4.

Speaking of cars, the 13th annual Saratoga Classic and Cool Car Show is coming up Sunday, July 28, with 250 classic, luxury, hot rods, and sports cars. www.saratogachamber.org

The Saratoga Library has created a new event called Repair Café, a place to bring items needing repair. Volunteers can help repair broken items and teach attendees how to fix things themselves. If you’re handy and want to help divert waste from landfills, you’re encouraged to volunteer to be a fixer. Find out more at the Saratoga Library Sunday, June 30, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

KSAR-15 is a local broadcasting treasure with a video history of our city. KSAR station manager John Dietrich has assembled videos taken of Saratoga events going back to 2004. Check www.KSAR15.com and look for “Saratoga Highlights.”

The Santa Clara County Fire Department says it’s time to get ready for fire season and stresses the importance of defensible space, a 30- to 100-foot buffer around your home, free of flammable vegetation. Santa Clara County Assistant Fire Marshal Jeremy Davis lauds Los Gatos homeowner Lionel Willingham, whose defensible space helped firefighters quicky extinguish a fire before it spread to nearby homes and open space. The department’s website at www.sccfd.org is full of helpful information.

Coming up is the annual Cancer CAREpoint Garden Party. The event raises funds to provide personalized care for cancer patients and their families and caregivers.
