‘South Park’ creators earn stars on Hollywood Walk of Fame

It’s no secret that Matt Stone and Trey Parker are Colorado’s own homegrown Hollywood stars, but it will soon be official.

The “South Park” creators are part of the 2025 class of honorees earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, meaning they will soon be literally cemented as part of pop culture history. Stone and Parker couldn’t immediately be reached for comment and a date for the celebration ceremony hasn’t yet been set.

“South Park” made its television debut in August 1997 and holds the title of the second-longest running animated series in American history, behind “The Simpsons.” Stone and Parker, who met while studying film at the University of Colorado in Boulder, previously told The Denver Post that they never expected the show to be a mainstay on the airwaves, let alone a cultural phenomenon.

In 2022, the duo celebrated the 25th anniversary of “South Park” with two concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre where they performed beloved original tunes from the series backed by bands Primus and Ween, as well as a six-piece choir and Geddy Lee of Rush. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis named Aug. 10 South Park Day in the Centennial State.
