San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office names new undersheriff

Transportation Security Administration agents discovered roughly 13.2 pounds of methamphetamine in the suitcases during a routine screening on June 27, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The man the suitcases belonged to had purchased a ticket from SFO to Australia and “intended to smuggle the methamphetamine there,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The case was handed over to the sheriff’s office, which is responsible for criminal investigations at SFO.

Deputies arrested the man and booked him into county jail on charges related to transportation of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and burglary.
