Alameda man wanted on three counts of attempted murder for allegedly shooting two teens and an adult in Oakland

OAKLAND — An Alameda man is wanted on three counts of attempted murder in connection with the shooting of two 16-year-old boys and a 23-year-old man, all of whom were hospitalized with serious injuries, records show.

Zaire Campbell, 23, was charged Thursday with attempted murder, and possessing a gun and ammunition as a felon, court records show. A woman who was identified by police as Campbell’s wife has also been charged with a felony count of accessory after the fact for allegedly “harboring” him after the crime.

Campbell has not been arrested. Police said in court records he is believed to be hiding out of state and is aware of the pending charges.

Campbell was identified as a suspect in the Aug. 5 shooting from surveillance footage and a review of his Facebook page, police said.

The victims were shot on the 700 block of Center Street in Oakland a little before 11 a.m. After allegedly firing a pistol at them, Campbell reportedly ran to a nearby barber college and went inside. Police were able to track the car that dropped him off back to his Alameda residence, authorities said.

One of the victims, the adult, had a brush with death, and had to be intubated at a hospital, authorities said. The teens were hospitalized with serious but not critical injuries. All three victims were generally uncooperative, according to police.

Authorities haven’t publicly stated the motive for the shooting.
