OAKLAND — A man has been arrested and charged with killing a person that police say he has known for most of his life, over a dispute that reportedly lasted several days.
The suspect has been identified by the name Darnell Amhil Anding, 42, but authorities say it’s far from the only name he is known by. His many aliases include nicknames like “Dope” and “Cell,” as well as Marcell Bible, and Saalah Odin, according to court records.
Anding was charged with murdering Corey “BC” Waters, a 52-year-old man who was fatally shot on Aug. 16, inside a shared living residence on the 3200 block of Adeline Street. Police say they were told that Anding and Waters were lifelong friends and had sold drugs together in the past, but that for several days leading up to the homicide the two had been feuding.

Anding was arrested in Oakland on Sept. 15, two days after his 42nd birthday, and booked on a murder charge. In a police interview, he claimed that Waters had recently threatened him with a firearm.
Police say that after the shooting, Anding went to a neighboring residence and washed himself, discarded bloody clothing and wrapped two firearms into a t-shirt. The guns were later recovered from the closet where he allegedly stashed them.
Several residents in the building were present during the shooting and later helped police identify Anding, though authorities had to navigate through his many aliases to confirm the identification, according to court records. At least one of Waters’ family members had heard a rumor that “Marcell” was responsible for the homicide before Anding’s arrest, according to police.
Anding is being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail. At his first court appearance on Wednesday, he reportedly refused to leave his cell, according to a minute order of the hearing.
