Looking to enjoy a fall evening in Los Gatos? Head up to Testarossa Winery. You can choose between the Wine Bar, serving cheese plates, charcuterie and smoked fish alongside glasses of Testarossa wine, or the newly opened Bistro 107. The bistro offers lunch and dinners made from locally sourced ingredients prepared by chef Nadiv Geiger, who trained under multiple Michelin-star chefs.
The outdoor setting in the historic courtyard itself is worth the visit. Testarossa is on the site of the old Novitiate Winery, originally built in 1888 by Jesuits from Santa Clara College (now Santa Clara University). It was intended to help fund their new seminary college, built on the grounds the same year. For hours and reservations, visit testarossa.com/bistro107.
You can taste Testarossa wines and other vintners’ pours at the Fall Wine Walk on Saturday, Oct. 26. Sponsored by the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, it’s a wonderful way to sample wines from over 30 wineries and food from local restaurants, and it’s a relaxing way to experience downtown Los Gatos. For more information, visit www.losgatoschamber.com/wine-walk
Fall is a good time to declutter, clean out closets and benefit others at the same time. The Discovery Shop will take your high-quality, gently used goods. The invitation is out to join the ribbon cutting for the shop’s new location at 150 W. Main St. on Tuesday, Oct. 29. There will be light refreshments and special discounts. The Discovery Shop, operated by the American Cancer Society, supports the fight against cancer through its sales.
Los Gatos Thrives Foundation is working to make create an age-friendly town and invites the community to two upcoming events. The next Monthly Monday Morning Movie is “Out of Africa” on Oct. 7, 9:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., at the CineLux Theater in downtown Los Gatos. The theater’s screen size and acoustics make for a great screening of this the Oscar- winning movie. Tickets are $10 at www.LosGatosThrives.org or at the door and include the movie, a pastry and movie-appropriate Kenyan coffee, thanks to Teri Hope and Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company. Foundation member Ginger MacDonald says, “The MMMM movie has created a nice following of 100-plus Los Gatos seniors every month. Initially we opened the doors at 10 a.m., but the lines got so long we had to open them at 9:45 a.m.”
The foundation is holding its next Los Gatos Community Center Design Event on Oct. 14. This phase 2 workshop will engage the community in planning spaces and functions for the proposed center. “Whether you’re a resident who uses our community facilities, or simply interested in contributing ideas, this event is for you,” MacDonald says. www.LosGatosThrives.org
