Sunnyvale School District celebrates 125th anniversary

Celebrating 125 years

Before the turn of the 20th century, residents of the town that became Sunnyvale formed a school district for their children and funded it with a $4,000 bond. This year, the Sunnyvale School District is celebrating 125 years of serving the community.

The district is holding an anniversary celebration Oct. 16, 4-6 p.m., in the Bishop Elementary School auditorium, 450 N. Sunnyvale Ave. Attendees can reconnect with old friends and teachers, browse school memorabilia curated by the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, hear about the district’s journey and enjoy light refreshments.

RSVP to Eventbrite.com. To share a story or photograph from your time in the Sunnyvale School District, email [email protected]. For more information, visit https://www.sesd.org/125years.

The city will award up to $48,000 to organizers of free community events taking place next year. Grants cover up to 40% of total event expenses. The goal is to increase communication among neighbors, improve the physical condition of a neighborhood, or enhance neighborhood pride and identity.

Grants are capped at $1,250 for neighborhood associations with 250 or fewer households, and $1,750 for neighborhood associations with 250 or more households.
