Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Sept. 23-28.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Jalen Arnold, Moreau Catholic football: Arnold starred on both sides of the ball, returning an interception 101 yards for a touchdown and catching six passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns as Moreau Catholic took down Berkeley 26-14.
Sean Coffin, Serra water polo: Coffin, a senior, scored three goals and had an assist and two steals in Serra’s 17-3 win over Gunn. Coffin added three more goals and another assist in a 14-7 loss to Bellarmine.
Jesse Crockett V, Sequoia football: Crockett rushed for 190 yards on 22 carries as Sequoia defeated Fremont-Sunnyvale 19-14 at home. His key carries down the stretch helped the Ravens run out the clock.
Adler Halterman, Half Moon Bay football: Halterman scored a school-record seven rushing touchdowns and ran for 323 yards on 31 carries as Half Moon Bay beat Foothill 52-45 in Pleasanton.
Yasser Jackson, Oakland football: Jackson caught two touchdown passes and compiled nine tackles at linebacker as Oakland defeated Kennedy-Richmond 19-8 on the road Thursday night.

Jarious Hogan, St. Ignatius football: Hogan compiled 120 yards on the ground and scored two rushing touchdowns, including the game-winner with 1:14 to go, as St. Ignatius upset Serra 21-20 in San Francisco.
Darrell Hurd, Vallejo football: Hurd had a career day for Vallejo on Friday, snagging 13 receptions for 299 yards and two scores, plus an interception on defense. Vallejo needed all of it in a 22-14 win over Terra Nova.
Jason Knight, Foothill football: Knight threw for 455 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for two more scores as the Falcons battled Half Moon Bay to the bitter end.
Joseph Patterson, Valley Christian football: Patterson intercepted two passes and made two tackles near the goal line, also adding a tackle for loss, in Valley Christian’s dominant 47-7 victory over West Catholic Athletic League foe Archbishop Mitty.
Landon Pretre, Menlo School cross country: Pretre, a senior committed to Wake Forest, led the Knights at the Woodbridge Classic in Irvine, winning the White Varsity Boys-A race with a time of 14:16.7. Pretre’s performance keyed the Knights to a first-place team finish at the event.
