One arrested after apparent fatal DUI collision in Berkeley

BERKELEY — A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Wednesday following a collision that killed a person, police said.

Officers responded about 4:30 a.m. to South Aquatic Park after receiving reports that a person was pinned under a vehicle, according to a statement from Berkeley police spokesperson Officer Byron White. When they arrived, they found the person dead under the vehicle.

Authorities did not immediately identify the victim, pending notification of relatives.

White said police arrested a 40-year-old man with no known address on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police closed South Aquatic Park for hours to investigate. It remained closed as of 8:30 a.m.
