NEWARK – A person was hit and killed by an Altamont Corridor Express train Tuesday in Newark, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 9:15 a.m. in the 6000 block of Baine Avenue, the Newark Police Department said in a news release. Officers arrived to find a person suffering from severe injuries.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will release the person’s identity after it is confirmed and their next of kin is notified.
No one on the train was injured, police said.
The Union Pacific Police Department is investigating the incident, according to authorities.
