Jose Calderon-Rodriguez, 33, was in the parking lot of the Bonfare Market in the 2800 block of Grant Street about 7:45 p.m., when the vehicle hit him. Police said they did not know where he resided.

He died at the scene.

In a statement, Concord police Lt. Mark Robison said officers arrested 22-year-old Alex Lazaro-Rosas on suspicion of murder. Robison said Lazaro-Rosas was driving the car and that police believe he hit Calderon-Rodriguez on purpose. Lazaro-Rosas knew Calderon-Rodriguez, Robison said.

Lazaro-Rosas remained in custody without bail at the West County Detention Facility on Wednesday.

The homicide is the first one investigated by Concord police this year. The last homicide investigation occurred in December.

Robison said Det. Justin Wilson still is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and urged anyone with information on it to contact him at 925-671-5859.
