SAN JOSE — A man died Wednesday evening after being hit by a car that fled the scene in San Jose, police said.
The crash occurred around 8:13 p.m. near the intersection of King Road and Salamoni Court, police said in a news release Thursday.
An adult male was driving a 2012 Dodge Caravan southbound on King Road north of the intersection when he struck an adult male who was crossing the street, authorities said.
The pedestrian was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver fled the scene but was located shortly later and arrested, police said.

The incident marks the 16th pedestrian death of the year, per data compiled by this news organization. It is also the fourth hit-and-run fatality investigated by the San Jose Police Department in 2024.
This is the 43rd fatal collision and 43rd traffic death this year, SJPD said. It is the first hit-and-run fatality that involved an arrest immediately afterward, per data compiled by this news organization.
The identity of the victim was not publicly released Thursday by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office pending identification.
