Driver of stolen vehicle evades deputies in Saratoga

Identity theft: Someone used a Saratoga resident’s personal information to open a bank account and then attempted to transfer approximately $100,000 into the fraudulent account. The account was closed, and the transfer declined. The victim did not sustain any financial loss.

Theft by false pretenses: A Saratoga resident contacted someone online regarding the purchase of a camera lens. The victim sent money using an online payment system but never received the lens for a total loss of approximately $1,700.

Possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless evading: At 1:03 a.m., deputies responded to an automated license plate reader notification for a vehicle with stolen license plates at Saratoga Avenue and Kosich Drive. An investigation revealed the plates were stolen from a vehicle in San Jose and were still outstanding. Deputies located and attempted to stop the vehicle a short time later, but the driver did not yield and recklessly evaded until driving off the roadway, where the suspect then jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving and fled on foot. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect. Further investigation revealed the vehicle itself was also stolen from San Jose, and it was ultimately returned to the registered owner.

Recovered stolen vehicle: At 6:38 p.m., deputies responded to an automated license plate reader notification for a stolen vehicle at Saratoga Avenue and Kosich Drive. An investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from Los Gatos and was still outstanding. Deputies located the vehicle a short time later unoccupied.

Nov. 16

Petty theft: Between 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 16, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 18000 block of Westview Drive and stole $100 cash.
