Oakland man charged with sexually abusing girl, allegedly since she was 12

OAKLAND — A local resident has been charged with molesting a girl for years, alleged crimes that police say were discovered when the victim’s mother walked in on an act of sexual abuse in her home.

Geremias Lopez, 19, was charged with 15 felonies, including committing a lewd act upon a child, meeting a minor to commit a sex crime, unlawful sexual intercourse, and residential burglary. Lopez is in Santa Rita Jail with bail set at $1.2 million and is due in court next on Dec. 10, for an arraignment hearing.

Police said in court records that Lopez and the girl became “romantically involved years ago,” when he was 17 and she was 12. On Nov. 2, the girl’s mother allegedly observed Lopez sexually abusing the girl inside her home and called police, who arrested him.

Authorities haven’t revealed how the two met. The burglary charges allege that Lopez entered the girl’s home with intent to commit sexual abuse.

Lopez has no prior criminal history, according to the criminal complaint.
